About Kim

The Backwards Hat Advisor

Michigan Mortgage Loan Originator. Former Mortgage Underwriter. Full-time believer that an informed homebuyer makes better financial decisions.

The Story

From Reviewing Files To Writing Them

I didn't start in sales. I started behind the curtain, as a Mortgage Underwriter — the person who reviews the file. Day after day I read tax returns, bank statements, appraisals, and credit reports, deciding whether a family got to buy the house they'd already fallen in love with.

What struck me most wasn't the paperwork. It was how often good, qualified buyers got tripped up by things nobody had explained to them: a large cash deposit, a new car loan, a credit card closed at the wrong moment. Small, avoidable mistakes with enormous consequences.

Underwriting Experience

I Know How The Decision Gets Made

Most loan officers hand your file to an underwriter and hope. I help prepare your file the way an underwriter wants to receive it — documented, explained, and clean — because I've sat in that chair. The goal is fewer surprises and fewer last-minute scrambles, though the underwriting decision always belongs to the underwriter.

The Brand

Why The Backwards Hat?

Because that's just who I am. I'm a regular Michigan guy who loves Lions football, and supporting the local spots that make our communities feel like home. The mortgage industry is full of stiff suits and corporate scripts. I'd rather sit across from you, hat on backwards, and explain your options like a friend who happens to know mortgages inside and out.

The Philosophy

Relationships, Not Transactions

A mortgage is a 30-year decision, so I don't disappear after a 30-day close. I check in on the market, review whether a refinance may be worth exploring, help you think through the next move, and answer the random Tuesday-night question about escrow. My mission is helping Michigan families make smart homeownership decisions before, during, and long after closing.

Relationships, Not Transactions

Let's Talk About Your Homeownership Goals

No pressure, no jargon, no corporate runaround. Just a real conversation with a former underwriter who can help you understand how these files are reviewed.
